The Basics

Katie

I specialize in helping folks heal from substance use, developmental and shock trauma, anxiety, and depression.

I’ve completed a few degrees: my bachelor’s degree at Kent State University, my Master of Social Work at the University of Denver, and my Master of Theology at Augustine Institute/Denver Seminary.

I’m a Licensed Social Worker and was recently granted my LAC which means I am now a Licensed Addiction Counselor as well.

As a dedicated life-long learner, I am consistently taking trainings and following my curiosities. This has led me to focus my trainings on topics such attachment, trauma, somatic approaches, and more.

What my love of learning means for you is working with a therapist who devotes time and effort in helping you deeply heal so you can get on with living and thriving!

My Path to Becoming a Healing Provider

Born and raised in the Midwest, my parents divorced when I was in 3rd grade.

I used to travel back and forth from Ohio to Colorado each summer and winter break. This made keeping stable relationships difficult and I grew up at times feeling like an outsider looking in. Anxiety became a familiar experience for me.

During college, I finally made the decision to heal my anxiety, to work on feeling better instead of hoping things would simply magically change. This began a wide journey of healing that led me to EMDR, acupuncture, yin yoga, cranio-sacral work and talk therapy. All of these healing modalities combined would give me the skills to heal.

I left Ohio and came to Colorado to complete my Masters in Social Work at The University of Denver (DU). While here, I completed my thesis on attachment theory. This is when I became more aware of how childhood trauma impacts our adult lives. Since then, I have worked with children and adults experiencing the negative effects of childhood or adult trauma, with an emphasis on working with adults with substance use disorders.

From inpatient to intensive outpatient settings, I have worked alongside adults diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders. I’ve also treated people living with schizophrenia and bipolar among others. I’ve worked with individuals in expressive ways such as through art and body work, while also staying grounded in a person-centered approach of talk therapy.

I believe that the power of the therapist and client relationship is healing. Taking a person-centered approach allows you, the client, to feel safe enough to reach back into past hurts and traumas that might still be holding you back right now.

Therapy reminds me of an analogy I recently heard about diving. We are here to do a deep dive, only our deep dive goes inward.  We’ll take this dive together, but we’ll go at your pace. We’ll often come up for air to regulate and process what we saw underneath.

Want to work together?

Cultivating a safe enough therapeutic partnership begins every healing journey. Together, we will weave each of our wisdom, experience, curiosity and intention during sessions. I use a combination of talk therapy and somatic tools with a lens of healing your nervous system and moving towards increased balance and wellness.

I may be a good fit for you if you:

  • Have been evaluating your substance use and think it is becoming problematic
  • Have experienced a traumatic event or lifelong trauma or neglect
  • Struggle with anxiety, depression or other mental health challenges and are looking for a safe place to process how to cope in more effective ways
  • Are looking to be courageous and want to take a deep dive
  • Want to focus on what is working and bolster those skills and tools

In session, I will encourage you to:

  • Be open to breathwork and grounding to help regulate your body.
  • Lean into your strengths and what is working in order to support your daily life.
  • Be curious about what is not working to change or challenge old patterns that are no longer serving you.

Having been on a healing journey myself, if I can heal and thrive, so can you!

My Quiet and Brilliant Adventures

For fun… well I am a bit of an introvert.

I am an avid reader and enjoy playing Scrabble on my phone while I also feel called to play outside in the glorious foothills hiking or walking my dog.

I treasure spending time with my family just hanging out. I am into exploring and traveling to new places and eating out while trying new foods!

In 2017 I walked 100 miles on the Camino in Spain. This was not only a physical challenge but mental challenge as well. I was given miles and miles of time to think and reflect on life. It was a true gift.

I consider myself a practitioner of Yin Yoga and meditation both of which bring me back to that same sense of reflection I found in the hills of Spain. I love getting on my mat and finding what focus on the breath and the present moment has to offer me.

In essence, I love the quiet and brilliant adventures life has to offer.
